Obituary of Anna Capparelli

October 14, 2020

Anna Helen Esposito Capparelli, born March 8th 1937. Anna was a true New Yorker, growing up surrounded by her large Italian family in Little Italy and living on the same block until her passing.

Daughter of deceased Anthony Esposito and Margaret Bianco ; Widow of William Capparelli ; Loving mother of Anthony and Mario ; mother in law to Concetta Capparelli and Joyce Capparelli ; cherished grandmother of Christopher, Anthony, Nicole, Simone, Joseph, Nico, Xochitl, Marilyn, Donald, Dominic, and Jordan. Beloved great-grandmother to Valamia and Christopher Jr. Devoted sister to Phyllis and Vincent; Aunt to Maria, Donna, Eugene, and John ; and cousin to many.

Anna was so proud to be from Mulberry Street and her family's history there. Her grandfather started the famous San Gennaro festival and she worked hard to keep the traditions alive while on the Little Italy Restoration Association (L.I.R.A.)

She enjoyed the simple things in life, like some Chinese food from right up the street in Chinatown or a fried Calzone from Sal's. Her drink of choice was either a nice cold beer or red wine and Pepsi. Her frequent trips to Atlantic City were the extent of her desire for travel so she made sure to do it right from hotel suites, to famed shows, and fancy dinners.

We would always joke to her about not having cable, but she was perfectly happy with her antenna television to watch some Law and Order. She surprised us all, at 80 years old, when she learned how to use Instagram to stay connected and keep track of her family and friends.

Anna will be dearly missed by us all, but we find comfort in knowing she was greeted by many loved ones who passed before her. May she rest in the sweetest eternal peace.

In lieu of flowers please donate to her Tribute fund page to support the LUNGevity Foundation in her honor.

Without Anna Capparelli there would be no Mulberry St and no Little Italy Restoration. She was the heart and soul of Little Italy and it was my honor to have worked with her on Risorgimento of Little Italy. God bless you Anna
