Obituary of David Joseph Andrade

David Joseph Andrade, beloved son of Joseph & Josephine Andrade, passed peacefully on August 17th, 2023.

David was born in Newark, NJ, and spent his formative years in West Orange, NJ, where he played baseball & football at the high school level. He was a huge superhero comic book enthusiast and a gifted artist. As a teenager, he submitted an idea for a superhero to Marvel and received a hand-signed letter from “Jazzy” John Romita, famed penciler and brush artist of Spider-Man comic books, encouraging him to pursue the field. However, David was also an avid bodybuilder who competed in several bodybuilding competitions in Essex County and later became a personal trainer at the New York Health & Racquet Club when he moved to NYC in the late 70’s.

For the past four and a half decades, he had lived in the West Village, the mecca of bohemia, for which his personality was best suited. His unique perspective of the world around him and how to live in it was his defining characteristic. Dave will be remembered as a handsome devil who had a great sense of humor, an immense love for football, an encyclopedic knowledge of movie history, and a terrific assortment of the most aromatically pleasing colognes.

He is survived by his loving partner of 33 years, Judy Costa, and his “little” sister, Denise Andrade.
