Obituary of Marylou Moran
April 30, 2024
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marylou Moran, age 87.
Marylou was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Anthony Moran, the love of her life from their first date at the Cherry Lane Theatre until his untimely death in 1973. She bravely and independently raised two daughters in Greenwich Village in an apartment building that was filled with families and love and laughter. She lived there, along with the same neighbors who were more like family than friends, until the time of her death. When her girls were school-age, she went back to work as an executive secretary so she could provide them with the things she valued most in life - a Catholic education, adventurous travel, and most important, a sense of well-being. Her faith was strong and sustained her throughout her life. She was unafraid to express her opinions about religion and politics and was steadfast in her beliefs. She loved New York City and could not walk down a winding Village street without marveling at interesting architecture or a new restaurant. As much as the city changed over the years, it was the most magical place on earth to her. Later in her life, she was most content in her cozy apartment with her beloved poodle Luca.
Marylou will be greatly missed by her daughters Jessica Gushée (Stephen) and Gillian Moran (Jenny Byrne) and her adoring grandsons Christopher and William.
If you would like to make a donation in Marylou’s memory, please consider the Carmelite Monastery of Morristown, NJ (
